Kanyawegi Childrens Home / FOOD 2 LEARN

25 September 2005

Wonderful news! The very first Kanyawegi charity shop has opened in Bath.

Kanyawegi UK has teamed up with a Christian organization, CMP (C. M. Partners Ltd) as agents to run charity shops for Kanyawegi. CMP have considerable experience in the charity shop arena. They will take full responsibility for all aspects of the business, in return for which they will take a percentage of the profits.

The shop, which is the Mall (Merchants Passage) next to BHS, is in desperate need of volunteers to help in the shop, and also donations of clothes and bric-a-brac. This will become more urgent at the end of September, when CMP will be opening a second Kanyawegi charity shop – also in Bath.

These shops, as well as providing us with more money, will also help raise even more - through interested shoppers joining the sponsors of Kanyawgi and Food 2 Learn – hence the importance of volunteers.

John Todd, the CPM manager, has appointed Steve as shop manager. If you are able to help in anyway, you can contact John or Steve on 01225 465086, or if you want any other information you can contact me.

If you are passing the shop – call in and encourage the volunteers, especially if you sponsor a child in Kenya.

OTHER NEWS

Everything at Kanyawegi seems to be going well. I get a twice-monthly financial report from Kenya – so I am able to keep up to date with all money things. We also get a twice-monthly director’s report, which keeps the UK committee updated with the children’s welfare.

The Standard Eight children are due to sit their final exams next month, this will determine whether they are able to join secondary school.

Unfortunately there has been a lot of Malaria at the home – which is costly as well as unpleasant for the children.

We have 72 children at the home, but we are hopeful for new sponsors to admit two very desperate cases that Doreen identified on her last visit to Kenya. Doreen hopes to be visiting Kanyawegi at the beginning of November, so if you have any letters you would like to send I’m sure she will be delighted to take them.

FOOD 2 LEARN

Food 2 Learn is also going great – we now have 100 children!!

But there is need to help many many more.
